There is a movement in Dummieland to support a Dennis Kucinich candidacy for president in 2008. I say bring it on! The Evil Elf is even more unelectable than Hillary Clinton. Another plus is that the Evil Elf is sure to provide LOTS of comedy material for future editions of the DUmmie FUnnies. Right now the publishers are a bit wary of a DUmmie FUnnies book project (with CD-ROM insert for related comix stories). However, with the prospective candidacy of the Evil Elf, how can politics be treated in any other way than as comedy? Yes, I support the candidacy of the Evil Elf as the DUmmiecrat presidential nominee in 2008. With the possibility of his candidacy in the wings, Mary Matalin would be BEGGING me for the DUmmie FUnnies book. And think how easy it will be to produce a series of Evil Elf comix stories in the CD-ROM insert section! I believe we're in a cold phase of a civil war now, the catalyst for the shooting is yet to come. The nation is becoming more polarized each day and discourse, which was already strained, has devolved into shouting matches. The local fundamentalists have spoken up on a local Freeper-type call in program and have officially labled us as evil. Several callers have stated that our "evil" must be confronted and fought. my extended family has been riddled with bitterness and ill feelings due to hate radio. Our family gatherings are fraught with hostility and anger. The scary thing about human nature is that it's so easy to inflame people, encourage hatred, and induce violence. And most don't have the objectivity to realize that they're being played.

OK, this rant is on behalf of my sister, who I just finished talking to on the phone one more time about the sad state of her love life. I was amazed to hear him say that; he's very strongly work oriented. I've been saying a general strike will bring the corporations to their knees quickly. They need consumers. It would take huge organization, but at some point, the citizinry will have to exercise the one power it has remaining. Other peoples have brought change about in this way--Poland, Iran, France, to name a few. We no longer make products and shutting down factories has been accomplished by the corporations themselves.

I completely agree. The most dramatic political victory of commoners in the past century, in my opinion, was the fall of the Warsaw Pact and the Berlin Wall caused by Lech Walesa and the Solidarity strikes.

We need to get behind a new labor movement. Reforming and forming unions is a good place to begin. I quit a union years ago because I felt they didn't represent me and appeared to be a good old boy's drinking club. I'm in the process of joining an organizing effort here. It is important to have strong representation for workers.

The old labor movement was a cooperative movement among many types of workers. We need to revive a populist message for workers--blue and white collar. I think white collar workers would be receptive now that their jobs are also being outsourced and they have become part of downsizing too.

One thing I had been thinking about was a National Labor Union. One labor union who would fight for ALL American workers rights, and that would not affect membership in local or job specific unions, but would act on along side already existing unions. If indeed the idea of a National Labor Union were to take off. Then actions like this would indeed be possible and much easier to execute with already designed organization from a union database.

Some leaders (SEIU?) are working to organize along industry rather than
along trade lines, to give more power to the group as a whole in bargaining with the corporate leaders, and to address industry-specific issues. Seems like a baby step towards what you are talking about.

Part of the problem of the past decade has been that labor unions were seen as being as corrupt as the corporations. If we can front candidates for local offices which speak to issues we value, then why not join unions and effect change there too? The unions are in need of reform to. So much of the leadership forgot why the union exists. It doesn't exist to provide its officers with perks but to serve as a voice for the worker. I recently read an article on DU about a union that had started cleaning house. Membership provides you with a VOTE and a voice. Enough likeminded people can effect change. This is basic grassroots stuff. We've gone back to the era of the robber barons in spades, so lets take back the weapons our forefathers used to battle them.

I often listen to Radio Reloj Havana propaganda broadcast via my AM radio in the early morning. Guess what? No blocking of the signal by the EVIL Bush Regime. And unlike the DUmmie I listen to it for laughs, not as a legitimate source for information. My feeling is that a draft would galvanize the country against bushco's war mongering because then and only then would the public have something to lose. It would be like Vietnam. Through the years, I and many others wondered why Blacks took to the streets rioting, looting, destroying THEIR community, THEIR property, THEIR neighbor's possessions.

These events seem to follow blatantly catastrophic and dehumanizing events -- whether it be the senseless killing of an innocent or an outrageous verdict handed down by an insensitive and biased jury.

Back in the early days of DU we didn’t have that many rules..WHY? Not that many people hence not that many situations needing rules. Well, 50,000 members later, situations abound. It’s a privately owned message board. This isn’t run by the Public Service Commission or the FCC. No it’s run by 3 young dudes in D.C. It’s theirs…. When you’re in their house they expect some civility. Again, I get it and I perfectly understand the necessity of it.

In fact it is really just a HOPE for the DUmmies. The fact that America is doing well under the EVIL Bush Regime is something that they just can’t handle. Funny you should mention fighting the power. My husband and I were just talking about that this afternoon, that the way things are going, a real revolution may be the only thing to save us. I was one of those hippies you were talking about, but like so many others I got caught up in settling down, raising a family, taking care of our immediate needs, and not paying much attention to our country's downward spiral. Now that I've reawakened (this past election robbery is what really did it for me, although I have been deeply suspicious since 9/11), I'm just so angry and frustrated. It feels so much like our hands are tied and that even when we send people to Washington who we think are going to work for us, they get corrupted and they vote against our best interests time and time again. I don't know what the answer is, but I think at some point if we're going to save ourselves, it's going to have to get really ugly. Revolutions happen in other places...maybe it's time for one here.

I am a leader at work - but like many others in this world now I try to balance family, work, bills, life in general and fear of how our government might destroy those who oppose it. Funny you should mention fighting the power. My husband and I were just talking about that this afternoon, that the way things are going, a real revolution may be the only thing to save us. I was one of those hippies you were talking about, but like so many others I got caught up in settling down, raising a family, taking care of our immediate needs, and not paying much attention to our country's downward spiral. Now that I've reawakened (this past election robbery is what really did it for me, although I have been deeply suspicious since 9/11), I'm just so angry and frustrated. It feels so much like our hands are tied and that even when we send people to Washington who we think are going to work for us, they get corrupted and they vote against our best interests time and time again. I don't know what the answer is, but I think at some point if we're going to save ourselves, it's going to have to get really ugly. Revolutions happen in other places...maybe it's time for one here.

Therefore it is with much relish, that I am DUFUing this DUmmie THREAD titled, “The Bev Harris story for newbies and those who have forgotten.” Let us now lead off with the original post by DUmmie Kelvin Mace aka David Allen who got personally burned by Bev. Bev has damaged people's reputation, cost them large sums of money with her legal bullying (and I am not talking about Diebold and election officials, I am talking about her former activists and helpers) and wasted much of their time dealing with her foolishness. she has impugned the integrity of established liberals on this board and elsewhere and accused even John Kerry and the Democratic party of conspiring to suppress evidence of vote fraud (huh????).

[FUnniest of all was when Bev threatened to sue DUmmies for daring to type the letters “BBV” on their keyboards. Now that the charges against Bev Harris have been laid out by her former colleage, DUmmie Kelvin Mace aka David Allen, let us hear from the other DUmmies for more LAUGHS…]

I once was a big supporter of Bev Harris but I have never been a blind follower of anybody. I think, I watch, I research and then I decide. Sometimes I change my mind, as I did with Bev Harris.

I don't think so. The may be vile, with blatent homophobic, xenophobic, and jingoistic leanings, but I don't think they are a hate group in the same way that Fred Phelps' ilk or the Ku Klux Klan is a hate group. And for this reason, the DUmmies are ANGRY and OUTRAGED. Why? Precisely for the reason there is NO draft because the DUmmiecrats as you shall see below believe the institution of the draft will cause the American public to rise up against the EVIL Bush Regime. Only when they run the risk of loosing something important to them -- like their freedom to not fight in a war they never really believed in -- will they wake up from their stupor and break free of the cult of the concentration camp of the mind. Dean's rapid rise to the forefront of the primary race was mostly due to his acknowlegement of anger and outrage. Even here at DU, I remember "what do you stand for?" threads that were started by people who realized this was a problem, and there were literally 50 different answers to the question. It was hard to find two people who agreed about what Democrats stood for. And the things that people were saying they stood were often things that you were never going to get +50% of the population to get excited about. Job #1 of a candidate should be establishing a coherent, clear statement about what they stand for. Kerry was doing a good (not excellent) job of doing that, but Rove was doing a better job getting people to look away from Kerry and look at Bush as the reference point for everything, and "I stand against Bush" was never going to rally a lot of people in the middle even if it got people who really hated Bush to the polls.

I won't be voting that way the next time ... either the Party will become more open and representative, or i'll be looking elsewhere for representation ...

Well, that date has come and long gone along with DUmmie Doohickie. However, a new, much vaguer “I BELIEVE” thread has been revived by DUmmie bleever. Although the goals of “I Believe” are somewhat mysterious, the humor is still there. As usual, the logic challenged postings of the DUmmie Believers are in Bolshevik Red while the commentary of your humble correspondent, hardly believing there is yet another “I BELIEVE” thread, is in the [brackets]:
